Massage therapy is manual manipulation of soft body tissues (muscle, connective tissue, tendons and ligaments) to enhance a person’s health and well-being. At Wil-Power we offer many different types or modalities of massage to help treat pain and disfunction.

Types of massage

Orthopedic massage describes a comprehensive system, rather than a single technique, that involves therapeutic assessment, manipulation and movement of soft tissues to resolve pain and dysfunction.

Neuromuscular therapy (NMT) is an approach to soft tissue manual therapy in which quasi-static pressure is applied to soft tissue to stimulate skeletal striated muscle. Through applied knowledge of trigger points, neuromuscular therapy addresses postural distortion (poor posture), biomechanical dysfunction, nerve compression syndrome, and ischemia.

Muscle release techniques are a form of physical therapy that works specifically on muscle injuries and strains to relieve pain. Therapists use a series of massages, compression and breathing techniques to break up the scar tissue and release tension in the specific area of pain, including the back.

Myofascial release (or MFR) is an alternative medicine therapy that is used to treat skeletal muscle immobility and pain by relaxing contracted muscles, improving blood and lymphatic circulation, and stimulating the stretch reflex in muscles.

Swe-thai massage is a derivative of Thai massage that has the same benefits of Thai massage, but it is performed during a deep tissue or Swedish massage, on the massage table.

Prenatal massage shares many of the goals of regular massage – to relax tense muscles, ease sore spots, improve circulation and mobility, and just make you feel good. But it's also tailored specifically to the needs of pregnant women and their changing bodies, and therapists who are trained in prenatal massage adjust their techniques accordingly.

These are just a few of the modalities in which our therapist are trained. Come let our skilled staff help relieve your pain today.
